Moos never applied varnish, preferring to polish his surfaces with shavings, giving a soft natural finish. Eschewing nails and screws, he relied on dowels, wooden pins, and wedges – wood against wood, creating a beautiful contrasting interplay of different wood types. A true artist Moos imposed three rules on his clients: he would design the appropriate form to suit the room in question; he determined the price; and he never worked under a deadline. It was not uncommon for his clients to wait several years to receive their furniture. Moos’ methods and concept of time might seem extreme, but they were simply more pronounced examples of the normal practices and express the commitment to quality that drove all the great Danish cabinetmakers. Through their powerful example, the quality of furniture production was elevated to a new height, creating a level of craftsmanship that remains unequalled today.
